I believe that one of the most important factors that help Attack on Titan series become the best anime of the decade is the way it builds characters. Attack on Titan not only introduces the characters brilliantly, but the line of development for them is equally impressive. The audience can clearly see their amazing growth and transformation through episodes, including Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, Levi Ackerman, etc. Moreover, even villains of the series also have their own fans such as Floch Forster, Kenny Ackerman, Porco Galliard, etc.

  1. HEROES:
1.1 Eren Yeager: As the main character of Attack on Titan, Eren is obviously the most invested name in terms of personality. At first, the guy was annoying when he only knew how to take revenge on the bloodthirsty Titans who killed his mother. Eren is stubborn, strong, passionate and impulsive like any other anime protagonist. But over time, the warrior's thoughts gradually changed in many different ways. Even Eren now has the ability to become the villain in his own story.

1.2 Mikasa Ackerman: Mikasa Ackerman is considered the "powerful woman" with the largest fan base in the series. After witnessing the murder of her parents, she was fortunately saved by Eren and has been with his family ever since. After the Maria Wall incident, Mikasa followed Eren into joining the army so that he could protect and assist him in times of need. In her heart, the female warrior just wanted to live a peaceful life behind the wall with her "adoption brother". Despite being a brave and talented soldier, Mikasa is easily swayed by emotions when Eren is in danger and leads to many dangerous situations.

*** If you want to see which character in Attack on Titan is matched with your personal traits, take this quiz:

1.3 Levi Ackerman: Levi is a distant relative of Mikasa in the Ackerman family. He is said to be the "coolest" character in Attack on Titan, as well as the strongest warrior of mankind. He could kill Titan without hesitation. But in reality, Levi is a person with a high sense of morality and empathy. He also believes in Erwin's decision and is ready to carry out any task when assigned.

1.4 Armin Arlert: Armin is Eren and Mikasa's childhood friend. Since he was a child, the guy has had a small and weak body, so he has to rely on two friends to not be bullied. Armin is very curious about the world beyond the wall and often confided in Eren about his desire to explore. Despite his weakness, he has formidable intelligence and excellent analytical ability. Armin is also very loyal and tolerant of the mistakes of others. The character now holds the power to transform into the Guardian Titan.

1.5 Erwin Smith: Erwin was originally the 13th commander of the Reconnaissance Squad. He is cunning, decisive, brave and always makes tough decisions at the most difficult times. In the first seasons, Historia is quite kind, shy and tends to be depressed by a tragic past. After many wars, she gradually matured and became stronger to inherit the position of Queen of the Wall.

I'm just putting this here and it's gonna rustle or tingle the AOT fans but Eren is the most dislikable char to me, he reminds me of griffith a lot who I also despise, the main theme they share is 1. Deterministic/Fatilistic Universes 2. Emotional Immaturity/Suppression Carl Jung would roll in his grave seeing their personalities.

The thing is Eren is ironically very similar to luffy who's one of my favs, the only difference is luffy embodies the the concept of positive freedom eren the opposite negative freedom, the terms were coined by the philosopher Isaiah Berlin. He's also far more emotionally mature.

I like reiner tho I generally enjoy redemption arcs
