Ok, so i've been questioned by many recently how to make rounded borders in avatars. Here's how you do it;

1.

You must be registered for see images

2.

You must be registered for see images

3.

You must be registered for see images

4.

5.

Finally. I am including an Avatar PSD to you guys.

It's this avatar

NOTE:

This avatar is not for you to use. Only for educational purpose.

Any questions, post in thread vm/pm me.
Hope it helps :)

Oh, and i forgot. I am going to include a link for "Scanlines" that you can use in avatars.
They work great for me :)

Re: Avatar Shape Tutorial + PSD File.

When I do it, the rounded corners look really jagged and rough. Any way to fix that? I tried smoothing techniques, but no luck.

Are they pixelated as well or?
All i can think of at this moment is the DPI(resolution) or the radius settings.

When I make the shape, it looks like this.

You must be registered for see images

Rough as hell.
Problem might be in color mode you use it either has to be 16 bit or 32 bit.
So when you want to do this first open a new file with 150x300 and put color mode to RGB Color either 16 bit or 32 bit.It should fix it :)

Shouldn't be the problem.. I run 8bit, and for me it's smooth. I'm thinking DPI though.

Re: Avatar Shape Tutorial + PSD File.

I had some problems in 8bit mode, have no idea why, could see pixels it just looked bad... :dunno:
Hmm i see. I've never had a problem with 8-bit myself, rather the other colour modes xD.
I'd recommend a DPI of 300 pixels/inch in the documents when you make it.
That is, if that is the problem with "jagged" curves. Now, i also have slightly "jagged" curves on my avatars. You can't reach perfect curves i think.. Or atleast not to my knowledge.

The DPI caused the Jagged edges. As Skorm said, just change it to 300 pixels/inch or higher, and you'll get a better output.
To change the DPI settings just go to Image>Image size> Document Size and change the resolution to 300 pixels/inch (Make sure to deselect "Resample Image")
