I think it already establishes that Sumire is S-class ninja based on her criminal but downgrading herself as genin just to be accepted into Konoha's society. She the only one after Obito dare to solo Konoha not even Orochimaru dare to solo Konoha but this girl did.

She got more out her sleaves not just too capable to control retired ninja like Kagemasa or other etc fodder into at least to jounin level of strength she also able to use jounin level ninja like Shino. Sumire and Nue together at least we can see so far posses ST jutsu, chakra biserk jutsu, Mokuton, and chakra absorption technique. Her jutsu has been said to be related with Otsutsuki jutsu says something. Other power is coming soon, she might be associate her strength with more scientific ninja weaponry, her future is promising if plot not restricting her potential.

But just what I hope she does not turn to 2nd Hinata, if the writer decides so it will be such a waste of potential for Sumire and Hinata. Possessed those power but fail to delivered.

On a more serious note I think she'll be relevant to the Otsuktsuki arc and is being reintroduced for 2 purposes. The first being Mitsuki's love rival and the second because she's connected to Kaguya's dimension. I'm sure they brought that dimension into the series for a reason and who knows what relationship she or the Otsutsuki have with it, maybe an Otsutsuki will corrupt her via it.

She was already in action in the anime with the water style jutsus. U can’t ignore anime sumire because it’s the real sumire that appeared before. The fact that she’s the manga proves her arc is canon . Stop being delusional

While Nue absorbing her chakra right, that's not fair. She's having gone through arduous training since a young age, Sumire is a very capable kunoichi. She was shown able to hold her own against a squadron of adult and elite ninja, who only acknowledged Sumire's skill. Her most powerful asset, however, is her deceptive and manipulative nature that has allowed her to forge herself a new identity, that of a meek and ordinary young girl. Sumire is very fast and nimble, able to effectively evade attacks and evade a group of pursers. She also has noticeable taijutsu prowess. She is very stealthy in general, able to effectively hide her presence, making it very hard to locate her.

But i kinda agree if Mitsuki summon Manda 2 vs Nue. Mitsuki with SM is easily kage tiers, but as a girl that solo and give a hard time to konoha's using her dark chakura Sumire is S-class ninja by her own criminal. Mitsuki stand no chance to put himself a level with Sumire (if criminal is the concern), Orochimaru his father need a war to fight Konoha. While Sumire done it solo.
