It's stupid and childish. Adults shouldn't run around like little kids saying "Ooooo he said *blank*". Recently Mayweather called Conor a ***g0t and there was a big deal made about it. Why?How old is everyone? Go worry about yourselves before panicking over words someone else said to someone else who is clearly able to talk for himself. It's just a waste of time and energy.
I disagree. It's hard to believe that the majority of societies that existed, did not care to be civil in regards to politics. And I believe that being civil is the essence of political correctness.
I see what youre getting across, it just seems to me that you're putting civility and formality in place of political correctness. You can be civil while being politically incorrect, you can also be respectful while being politically incorrect.
Let's take a modern example; Polish conservative politician Janusz Korwin-Mikke was in the news recently for what critics are calling a "sexist tirade" after he expressed his opinions on the gender pay gap, that being; because women are shorter, weaker, and less intelligent than men, they must earn less. He was civil in his delivery, and respectful to the other members of parliment as he stood before them, but that does not change the fact that what he expressed is considered politically incorrect.
Political correctness is euphemistic avoidance of terminology and expressions of ideas that may offend a social demographics that are perceived as oppressed or marginalized.
So while it's possible to be respectful/civil and politically incorrect, the opposite is true where you can be disrespectful/uncivil and politically correct. Here's a throwback example; Chanty Binx (B I G R E D), the notorious feminist, has been etched into infamy for her disrespectful, and obnoxious approach to those who oppose her on feminism. While her delivery was far from civil or respectful of her intellectual opponent, her expressions of ideas is as close to politically correct as they could possibly be.
Political correctness is "politically driven", generally by far left liberalism and radical progressivism, otherwise it would be regarded as civil correctness or social correctness.

Ah, I see what you mean. I guess I conflated respect with political correctness because that's what I really care for. I don't like those who try to use force to turn political discussions in their favor but I believe free speech can send us backwards if we don't accept the responsibility that comes with it.
When people say they're against being pc really mean they want to be disrespectful but these same people have whatever they value critized they cry about it
Nothing wrong with being polite and wanting people to feel comfortable, but people do go to extreme, way extreme. They do on both sides. Either too PC or too rude. Too insane about something or too non caring at all. To answer your Q tho, people act like it is bad because people are so extreme. When you try to micromanage every word or every action or treat everything as bad, it hurts your cause.
I don't know much about DW, but it didn't sound forced to me. This alien or whatever the Doctor is, I don't know much as I said, transforms into people when regenerating. Females are people. If my understanding is right then I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner because it just makes sense.

Their reasoning for a female doctor is because there isn't much female protagonist on scifi shows so they went that route rather than making a story on how his regeneration works or it just random physical appearance.

Yeah- Civility was and always will be must for smooth working of a group or society if they want to get things done with maximum and high quality output including political sphere.
But I disagree with the part in grey: Some acts of civility may also be politically correct but someone being PC doesn't mean they must be civil or even believe in the things they say. The word pair " Politically-correct" itself suggests that the opinion needn't be the true thoughts of the person but the words spoken to align with a particular political party line or ideology or group a person supports. So technically people from opposite sides may be saying opposite things even when both are being politically correct in their own spheres. That includes acting uncivil and bullying others in to silence depending on the kind of group politics they are involved with, at the time.
Thus, different groups may have different level of political correctness and forms, but many people from both sides are misusing the term. For example: If there are a lot of people trying to shut anyone with different thought in disagreement or inconvenient to themselves, there are a lot of racists, sexists or outright bigoted jerks who try to get their way in name of rebelling against political correctness, when all they are doing is being all these things and cannot truly justify such behaviour without owning one or more of those labels otherwise. And yet such people have their supporters who may know better but don't speak against it and would rather stand beside them because of group loyalties.
In short I believe, words "civil" and "politically correct" are neither synonymous nor essence of the other, although they overlap on many occasions.
I prefer people to be civil but nah I don't care about PC-ness much. It doesn't tell you their true thoughts, only hides it. But there are occasions when it maybe needed to a degree to avoid conflict and focus on the main goal and get things done, regardless of the personal opinions of group members. Where to draw the line will always be subjective and debatable. One can only hope that sane minds will prevail and keep an agreeable balance.

"The concept is that this is a Time Lord trait through which the character of the Doctor takes on a new body and personality to recover from a severe injury or anything that would otherwise kill a normal person.....The time-travelling feature of the plot means that different incarnations of the Doctor occasionally meet. "- Wikipedia
There have been 12 Dr who meaning it changed body 12 time already. So yep it doesn't seem forced. How it turns out will depend if they take a Wonder Woman way or a Ghostbuster way. As long as they write a good script and make it properly it should work.

Yeah but of all the time it has to be now? What will all the female companion think when they found out the doctor they had feelings toward just became a woman.

You know normal fonts are the best for eyes- makes reading easy....
And really? Is that what worries you? Let them handle it - if they feel that bad maybe they can hit this doc hard enough and he will have to find a new body again. Or you can wait for them to release it before deciding what you want to do with your doc. At the worst you will have to skip this season and wait for the new Dr who. I doubt he is going to be a woman permanently. They don't even make toys for many female characters because they don't feel it will sell while equally or less popular male characters may get one more easily.

This is a flawed opinion. Being 'PC' doesn't make you soft. People that are 'PC' work in government, military, police force, education, law, etc. etc. Just as not being 'PC' does not make you hard. You've drawn a line in the sand in your mind and that line does not exist in reality.
Well what is wrong with an all gendered restroom? That's what I never understood. They have existed for years without people crying themselves to sleep about them.
What makes me laugh is you're calling these people weak and in need of a safe space because they just want to use the bathroom. Why do you love male only or female only bathrooms so much? Is it your safe space? Are you not comfortable enough to share the same bathroom as a man or woman? Grow up.
Let people live their lives and move on. People like you complain about them using the male or female only bathroom and then laugh your ass off at how weak society is because they have to implement 'all gendered bathrooms' because of your whining in the first place.

Agreed. Those are two great examples of how to and how not to do it. Because Doctor Who is so big, I hope it follows Wonder Woman's footsteps. This is a big opportunity.
All i can say is that some lines cant be crossed and if we keep crossing and ridicule the concept of respecting other then that society will eventually collapse itself, look at the right vs left war, everyone is spewing insults and viewing each other as a parasite that doesnt deserve to live in their country its more intense then its ever been and it will head to nowhere better, people are too invested in this to backdown now
So basically a society where everything is ridiculed is anarchy,
