Pretty much everything about naruto the character is flawed writing wise since he became ninja Jesus, and was a complete contraction to everything previously established about him.
As for kishi's writing the dude writes like a beginner. He even made the noob mistake of creating a character that was so ridiculously, and nonsensically overpowers he could not figure out a way for the heros to reasonably stop him.
That's a beginner mistake.
He doesn't know how to write story's or plots without them going all over the place bad being unfocused. Unless itd a one shot series apparently.

i knew you'd use Sasuke's flashback as a counter. However unfortunately for you sasuke is the one asking the questions or statements to naruto therefore it doesn't really matter what he is "thinking" especially the fact that he directly said what he needed to say without fluffy dumbed down metaphor talk as if he knows what naruto is thinking when he don't. He doesn't see from the reader's perspective therefore he has to get as much accuracy response from naruto and that is where the problem lies.
As a author sometimes they have to speak through the character and that is the 2nd problem. Naruto is a dumbass, if he tried to explain like you just did it would be out of character for naruto. The only credit i give naruto here is when he called sauce out for being a hypocrite. That was direct, no fluff talk, said a logical response that sasuke would get but unfortunately that one and only good quote had nothing to do with the kages...ya know the main point of the discussion/thread?
Infact most of what he said had less to do with the kages ordeal and just personal fixation on sasuke and his loneliness like it's FT. Smh terrible.
Heavily plot shielded, TNJ where most ruthless changes all of a sudden, don't know how he learn techniques all of a sudden that he has no knowledge at all torii seal, Jesus healing when he was shown to be dumb and dead failure i wouldn't care if he was a genius though, but yeah as said earlier plot works in his favour, thanks to him all other characters became irrelevant and fodder and neglected.
I think what started as a realistic character got turned into someone surreal idealistically.........striving to gain recognition and understanding the pain of others was good, the goofiness, badass moments, bright ideas in battles, a bit of a fool, a hint of pervertness that made Naruto likable...but reducing him to an iddealist and poster boy for world peace and some sort of a monk or Buddha avataram that was what i found a bit ridiculous....he should have retained a harsher side too not just being the goody all forgiving person.....be strong and harsh when required while keeping his emotions in check...the TNJ factor was too much in the character specially in some parts where action would have been much better.......Naruto should have been a bit more realistic

It does matter what Sasuke is thinking. It's representing the duality between Itachi, the past, and burdens. His rational wasn't even explained properly. He talks of how his brother was the, "someone who should have been hokage" and neglected to state why other than, "He took burdens all by himself".

The irony in this is the fact that he thinks he's doing the exact same thing Naruto is doing with the past experiences, "learning from them and trying to correct it".
When all he's doing is exactly what Madara was:

Sasuke has his own fixation with trying to isolate himself from everyone. Most of all, Naruto Uzumaki. That and trying to share the same martyr complex as his brother. Going so far as using him as an offering:

The one and only thing that actually mattered from their conversation was that duality. Not just the bijuu or the kages. He considered his brother a true hokage and idolizes that when Itachi already shaped how a true Hokage is in the eyes of Naruto.
You say the author sometimes has to speak through the character but that doesn't apply for this situation. Especially given the fact that every time they clashed they literally understood one another and the flashbacks we were given in chapter 694.

Maybe you should re-read 699 again and understand the theme of the series. You talk about "A logical response Sasuke would get" but Sasuke already understood Naruto. Sasuke was just stubborn. Literally the 3 most stubborn people in the series are Madara, Sasuke, And Naruto. 1 of which died being stubborn while the other 2 finally reconciled after losing their arms.
You're calling him a dumbass, (which he's more of a "fool" than a "dumbass"). But for the wrong reasons. Looking back at your post that you called an exaggeration should have let me know it was better off not responding to you.
It might not be his fault, but I hate when he sounds like he is definitive about certain things will go down. He said that Neji was free from his curse but look at what happened. He ended up dying like a caged bird.
His goals are no sense, and some points he just seemed spoiled and egoistical.
I dont hate him though. I just think he's poorly developed, like almost all Kishimoto's characters
