There's a way to circumvent the arduous conventional way of obtaining a MS.

Have Itachi put you in Tsukyomi and have him make you see your bff die.

When he releases the genjutsu, you should have your MS.

I don't think that would work, i mean, everyone that was caught in a genjutsu so far knew that they were caught in the genjutsu itself. I think they have a sense of what's reality and whats not as far basic genjutsu goes. Don't know about advanced genjutsu like Tsukuyomi. In infinite Tsukuyomi they seem to have no sense of reality whatsoever. idk, it's a plothole.

Doesn't work that way, you need to experience strong emotion from a real life event, if the person knows it was a genjutsu the emotion won't be as genuine as a real life experience.

In addition, not everyone has the genes to awaken Mangekyo, the 3T Sharingan alone was said to be rare amongst the Uchiha.

Or another easier way if you don't want to face the torture of Tsukuyomi is to get the spare MS eyeballs out of Obito's Lab and start slipping it into your eyesocket.

Its a simple Cataract Operation.

Awakening MS doesn't always happen instantly, once the genjutsu is over they'll find our their friend is alive and the emotional trauma will not be effective.

And as I said before, not anyone can awaken MS and those that can have different emotional responses. If genjutsu was as effective as you say then Sasuke would've awoken MS by part 1 or Itachi wouldn't have had to let himself die by his brother's hands to force him unlock the dojutsu.
