He beat kisame at 30% once, and he beat him the second time without same had a and with kisame wanting to run away.

And Itachi is arguably the worst matchup for gai, seeing as how genjutsu will absolutely destroy him.

Even if he fuses with Samehada and "traps" Gai in the water dome, Gai breaks out of it with gates, seeing as it pushes away water:

And even if you want to argue that somehow Kisame's water dome is "stronger" than regular water, Hirudora destroys it with no difficulty what so ever, and seeing as it's not chakra, it can't be absorbed.

Again, there's no scenario short of gates being restricted where Kisame is beating Gai.

The only thing that would save Itachi from Gai is potentially Yata. Even if he landed amaterasu(which Sasuke was able to avoid for a while, Gai could do the same if he's not caught off guard) on Gai, Gai's pain tolerance would allow him to keep fighting. I doubt totsuka has the speed to hit Gai, but that's arguable I guess.

Him having to fight both by himself would likely end with his death, though, even if he does manage to take them both down in the process(which is arguable as well..I don't doubt at all that Kisame gets killed, I would question whether Hirudora breaks yata or not though).

Adding Kakashi to the mix makes this win for team 1. Gai fighting by himself is a stalemate at best, and a likely loss.

He can resist pain but not death, Amaterasu is a extreme level of pain, he's not in 8th Gate but in 7th, if he get burnt by it, I don't think he will last much time. Plus Itachi is helped by Totsuka. Gai is certainly faster, but Susanoo is bigger and has a bigger area of impact, you see ?

Yata is overrated, but I don't think a Taijutsu tech can break it tho'

Kakshi make a great team with Gai, but w/out Kamui, it's just Gai alone vs Team 2.
