There is old Japanese folktale of Izanagi's son and Daughter are Amaterasu and Susanoo . Amataresu was born from tears of Izanagi and True Royal Princess and Susanoo was like Loki and was born from Sword of Kusanagi . It's really good Story .

However, this doesn't mean I've seen every single shrine or statue of faith on the planet. The statue wasn't "inspired" by hinduism, it "depicts" the Buddha, Siddhartha. Siddhartha broke off from Hinduism and established his own religion that centers around the person's enlightenment from the six realms rather than worshipping the hindu deities.

izanagi tried to save izanami from the underworld, but she was rotting etc. and he ran away etc. etc. after he returned from the underworld he washed his face and from his left eye the sun goddes amaterasu was born and from his right eye the moon god tsukuyomi was born and from his nose the storm god susanoo was born.

kusanagi came into play in the stories of susanoo where he defeated yamata no orochi, i think he found the sword inside his tail or something.. this fight was symbolized by orochimaru's yamata no jutsu vs itachi with susanoo. though that's not the way it went.
