I will not walk off my path, I will walk it no matter how hard it gets! That is my ninja way!

What is this?

There is no secret that everyone has their own ideal of fictional characters, the reason they like or dislike them varies from person to person. With the series ending soon, I would like to give my personal opinion on the characters which we've followed for so many years, their development and growth. How they have affected me personally and how their character has made me think about several things. However, I would also like to discuss your ideals as well! So lets discuss a little!

Uzumaki Naruto

My reason for starting this thread line with Naruto is for two reasons, he is the character who shares the name with the series, but most importantly he was the character I disliked the most when I started with the series a couple of years back. That ideal changed over the course of time as I got older and the series continued.

I would say that his character development was great enough to make me like him more, but it wasn't. In fact, his character development is non-existent as he is the same now as he was in the past. He has not changed one single bit, he has been himself through out the series, never changing what he believes in or who he is. This was the plain and simple reason why I started to like him more as a character, the strength to not weaver from who you are and not to give up on yourself.

I still don't like his design a lot, as in his looks. I don't like his personality for the most part and I am not a fan of him in general. But his ideal of never giving up on yourself or those you care for, no matter who they are, your enemy, your friend or your family member. The ability to love them no matter what and never give them up, that is what made me like his character after some time. Why is this?

Well, I've spent a lot of my time over the course of my life doing one thing, thinking. As time went by, I started to give up on others, and on existence itself. (It becoming completely pointless to me.) I did give up on life, though I never did try to kill myself, I rather just wanted to sit by and watch as the world fell apart as I gathered information about people for fun. This changed after some as I realized that one doesn't just give up on the ones we love, we can try, but if you love someone, you will do whatever you can to help them.

This later turned into a affection towards everyone, not just people I knew, but everyone I met. I love to help others, I will do whatever I can to avoid someone being sad or feeling pain, and that is why I started liking Naruto's character. His character, the ideal of it is what I wanted to be, or partially and that made a connection to his character. The one thing I know I share with his character personally, is the ideal of never giving up no matter what.

The ideal to forgive anyone, the ideal to never give up, the ideal of wanting to protect everyone. Those ideals, those parts of his character, they never changed, they've stayed the same for as long as the series have been going on. Those are the things I admire with his character, those are the things I really like about his character. Now, why do you like his character? Why do you dislike it? Certainly, there must be at least a single thing you like about it. Discuss!

What I like about Naruto is that he matured... (unlike some other anime characters)

I agree that most people don't realize naruto has been forgiving the entire series. He would rather bare the hate himself(since hes been on the receiving end of this at a very young age)than let it be within others.

Gaara (part 1) Itachi Sasuke, Obito(part 2). Same story

I've forgiven people for trying to take my life, I've forgiven people for making my life a living hell, I've forgiven people for abandoning me. However, the one thing I have never managed to forgive someone for is to make my friend's lives into living hells. So to answer your statement, it depends on who the killer killed. I would have no quarrel if the dead one was me, but if it was someone I cared for then I may have had some hard time forgiving the killer. (Though I would never act on hatred towards the killer in revenge.)

I was also implying that if one likes a character because of the actual character and not design, then one makes a mental connection with them. (Like common ideals or feelings.)

Maybe if the killer changes his views and helps save the world... not to mention that Naruto never forgave Obito..

To say that Naruto hasn't grown is absolutely ridiculous. He's not the same person he was. He grew from being enveloped in hatred and imprisoned in his own mind like Gaara, to the obnoxious child who refuses to take no for an answer and let anyone suffer, to being a catalyst of a broken shinobi world and accepting the mantle of everyone before him.

His central theme of unity and forgiveness stays the same, but that's because it's the right way to be. It's what's gotten through him life. He knows the pain and unbearable hurt of isolation and having nobody to care about you and he doesn't want ANYONE to feel that way. That's why he's willing to his put his life on the line time and time again to do what's right and correct the wrongs written, because he's the man this world needs.

He's learned many valuable lessons that have strengthened his resolve and showed him a new way, lessons he picked up from his parents, Jiraiya, Obito, Nagato, Zabuza and Haku, Gaara, Killer Bee, Itachi, and even Kurama. He's learned to protect the people around him, to never forget their acknowledgement is what made him strong, to carry the pain so others don't have too, to press forward no matter the cost, to make peace with the hurt in your life and move past it, and to never forget where you come from, among many others. He's much more than just "forgiveness". He's the beacon of hope that the nations need.

In chapter 671 Naruto said that him and Sasuke are great friends. When though Sasuke doesn't give a shit about him. He also stands around cries like a little b!tch over Obito instead of fighting Kaguya. He is immature as hell.

Anything positive you say about Naruto's character "can and will be held against you" on the Base.
But still, his character is the reason I got interested in the series. I wanted him to be acknowledged and respected!
His determination, his refusal to give up on something he believes in, his desire to protect everyone he cares about, and even his foolishness/gullibility are all things that make Naruto a likable hero.

This is a guy who tells it like it is, who doesn't talk behind your back, whose motives are always transparent, and who will help you and defend you. He's strong without being arrogant and powerful without being a bully. He's matured without becoming cynical and has known evil without growing disillusioned.

He's still one of my favorite characters.

Sasuke doesn't care about him? If I remember correctly then it was the memory of Team 7 which held Sasuke together against Killer Bee and his reason for finally awakening Amaterasu. Sasuke saved Naruto against Haku at the cost of his own life, and he clearly feels strongly for Team 7 still. (As Naruto hinted towards.) Sasuke cares for Naruto and the rest of Team 7, he only cares more for his mission. (In the same sense as Kaguya probably cares for Naruto and Sasuke as they are alike her children, but her mission take priority.)
