What Obito did that Naruto thought was so cool.

Remember that the thing that hurt Naruto the most was believing his existence wasn't wanted and being lonely. If he was in Obito's position he would be terrified.

The part I think that Naruto thought was so cool was how Obito accepted that fate as an appropriate punishment so calmly, and also found a way to be happy despite facing the kind of fate that Naruto was scared of the most:

It reminds me of the TnJ that Naruto gave about how a Hokage's job is to go down unknown paths and break through dead ends. That was one of those dead ends that Naruto probably wouldn't have personally been able to break through. Naruto's giving him some credit for doing something he thinks is awesome.

Not even 2 hours before Obito was trying to kill his father and Naruto rasenganed him for insulting the Hokage. Now he claims Obito is the coolest guy for wanting to be Hokage Lol.

they both wanted to be aknowledged be hokage and grew up alone.

also '' hes cool'' comes from chapter 8 when kakashi tells them obitos words and it impresses naruto. he says hes cool!

interestingly enough, it was during the bell test, remeber kakashi told them to remember the bell test a few chapters ago against madara? kakashi finished it by telling them obitos words to inspire them.

Yeah he learned a lot of things he thought was cool from Kakashi that he later learned came from Obito. I'm just repeating what you said with that statement... .

Anyways, Obito's coolness is part of who he is. For Obito to demonstrate that he's the same Obito that Kakashi knew from the past, he would have to do more cool things in the present. That is how Kakashi and Naruto know that he's Obito and not hiding behind his metaphorical mask. When Obito is being authentic, he does really awesome things. Kakashi keeps looking at him like he's some kind of god or something.

I agree I feel like it had something to do with the smack talk BZ was doing and how Obito reacted to that

Naruto thought he was cool because.....

He became god and threw it all away (on purpose) for his sake.

Yet still remained on a respectable level.

Yeah I bet Naruto's pretty pissed at BZ for not giving a f*ck about his own role in turning upside-down people's lives.

No one will ever say that.

I don't recall him praising Zabuza and Obito was way worse than him.
There was a part where Naruto said that he liked Zabuza and asked Kakashi if that was weird.

That means he has mixed feelings about them. Hence he asked that was weird. They also never did any real harm to Naruto.

that dude just killed yesterday in the Naruto World Neji and you just can not call him cool after this
Especially since Obito was the one responsible for Minato and Kushina's Death's
and his Reasoning was bs too,he did all of that only because of an 13 year old girl
The more i talk about it the more i find these 2 character's shitty

Mixed feelings eh? That's not what I read from it, he seemed to declare them so confidently, he was just asking if that was weird. But then it's not my comic and there's no such thing as a "correct" reading so there's no reason to continue.

The person with the most permission to call Obito cool would obviously be Naruto, since he's Minato and Kushina's own son and all. And they have already established that there is a distinction between the Obito who causes suffering, and Obito the Hero. Naruto is obviously referring to Obito the Hero.

Sasuke also has permission to call Obito whatever he likes. He chose to leave Obito to his fate. Sasuke might not agree with Naruto but he also didn't pressure him with his own point of view of what Obito deserves.

He's not a hero, but a criminal. Even Obito admits it. He was just cleaning up his own mess. That's no hero.

I like this reasoning and what you said in your first post. Even though it still irks me quite a bit that he said he was cool, I understand it a bit more and kinda accept it. I'm still conflicted over it, but whatever :3 From the first time I read it, I always thought that he said he was cool only for trying to become Hokage, not for anything else like his redemption.
I kinda wish Naruto handled it the same way like he did with Nagato. He was sad and angry at the same time.

I think the Nagato thing was a useful lesson. It showed that not being able to forgive someone doesn't have to be an obstacle. Naruto and Nagato were both working hard for the same goal, and the goal was bigger than his own personal feelings. Konan pointed it out, carrying out his own form of justice would only be a temporary solution and solve nothing.

In some ways that could be tied back to Obito. I just thought of something else. Naruto's "cool" line could just as likely have been meant as a retort to Black Zetsu. Black Zetsu's not allowed to call him uncool since he's not blameless in making him that way.

Btw, Naruto just thought that he was the "coolest" because he wanted to be hokage. Said so himself.

Obito has played a major role in Naruto's life. He is the reason Naruto has Kurama, he is the reason Kakashi thought Naruto about teamwork, he is the reason Sasuke felt alone like he did, he is the reason Naruto is able to fight alongside his friends in battle like this and he is also the person who shared the same ideals as Naruto.

To Naruto, anyone who is able to walk down a path they believe in, dying to fight what they love and care for, to fight no matter the cost to protect whats important to them, to him that is the coolest thing one can do. That is why Naruto thinks Obito as cool, he died to protect the very thing he once loved so deeply, his comrades.
