I believe they have been placed on Hashi through out the fight. Madara started putting the in Hashi after he tells him hes going to take his SM. He definitely started placing them on him after chapter 647. So you don't have much to re-read if you want to find out and see if there are any specific moments he places them in Hashi, but I don't believe there are. There may be though. Also they are the same rods used by Nagato to control pein, you can clearly see them in Nagato's back.

I re-read those chapters again. It suddenly appears in one panel after the dust clears. So, it's obviously off panel, because I couldn't find a single manga scan, where it's shown that Madara placed those rods on Hashirama
