Street gangs: Can they be morally good?

Whenever most people think of street gangs, they usually think of a bunch of young thugs with no respect for their elders or the law. Generally they are unpleasant and when you see one you'll often go to the other side of the road for fear of being mugged. But I'm curious what you think: Can they actually be beneficial to the community?

Generally people who carry guns and patrol their "turf" don't care about anything but the dollar sign. But what if their was a gang that was only interested in protecting their community? You would call them more vigilantes than a gang, but the idea would be the same. Now for money they'd probably have to just work normal jobs, but also could hit other gang's safehouses for some of their cash and other. . .items.

What do you guys think? And any other thoughts?

Sort've, except way more brutal and ready to go to war. Basically they'd believe that the cops can't do enough, and that's when they step in.

Think of it more like how superheroes do.

Nope because most of the time, it's only older misguided kids preying on younger kids with no parental or father figure in the home. They make them feel as family while on using/exploiting them for their own personal needs. Minors get lesser punishment by the law. Watch a movie called South Central.

well you forgot about how I know people who were shot from random bullets by a gang member. Street gangs sometimes have initiations that involving killing normal civilians

Was watching a psychological experiment last year. Two actors, an older man and a young girl, were portraying a scenario on a street.

The man would grab the girl then the girl would start screaming saying "that's not my Dad thats not my dad!" And things like that.

It was testing the bystander effect, where if people were in a crowd they'd be less likely to help.

Sadly, no one helped until these two African American men dressed up as your stereotypical street thugs actually did something. They ran at the guy and the guy let the girl go, then they said it was all just acting.

I just felt like sharing this. You shouldn't ever judge someone by how they look. Some people may look really nice, but they won't help someone in need. Yet people who look like they'd be the ones causing trouble can actually be the ones helping out.
