Personal opinion, though very unpopular, is that I feel Naruto time traveled. Went backwards in time and that's the cause for all of this. Explains prophecy, explains how he knew about things, might even explain Kishi's implementation of both of those concepts. Also explains why Kurama is so obviously the strongest bijuu.

I no longer feel those two characters are disconnected. They are one and in the same in my books.

Naruto is a teenager( a fact a lot of people seem to forget) Just because some characters his age are more mature than he is doesn't mean anything at all. Hashirama has a personality a lot like Naruto and he's the toughest ninja shown so far in the manga. When Naruto's 30 then you can come back and make this post.

You're forgetting that Naruto is wise for his age and it is a common belief that the Sage was wise. The Sage taught Ninshu; so he made people believe in him. Naruto has had countless people believe in him over the course of the series. And Naruto is not stupid. You mistake a goofy personality for stupidity. The sage did not tell the tailed beast that he would be reunited with them again, which would be the case if Naruto was going to be his reincarnation he only told them that someone would unite them and lead them on the right path.

I believe he will meet the sage in his mind like he did with Kushina and Minato but it will be temporary when he first becomes the 10 tails jinchuriki. I think just as Minato left his and Kushina's chakra within the seal the sage left some of his chakra with each of the tailed beasts and so Naruto will be able to communicate with him temporarily when all of the beasts come together in him.

He is the person the sage told the beasts about which makes him the sages prophecy and legacy. Reincarnation would mean he would have the sages soul. Why would the sage do that when he felt he did not do right by the tailed beasts?

The term would actually be "Rebirth" (Buddhism) not "Reincarnation" (which is a Hindu belief) the Soul of Naruto is indeed that of Rikudou, but this is not a case of Soul Transmigration because Buddhism does not believe in a permanent self (Anatta) the rebirthed soul (Naruto) retains the karmic imprints of its previous life (Rikudou) but the memories, personality and identity of the previous (Rikudou) is not necessarily the same as the current (Naruto) so they are the same, and not the same being at the same time.
