You do realise that Itachi's stamina/chakra reserve is pitiful. All Naruto needs to do is pretty much blitz him while he's on his susano'o.

i know i could be wrong, but the sage isnt in battle at that moment, the whole reason for the spike in his hand is so he can spin it around like he did to block amaterasu and if its the chakra balls then why didnt it lose shape and make a shield instead of spinning it and the fact is you could be wrong as much as i can as i see nowhere that states if this is the staff or not it was

Not. He didn't even know that he would end up spinning it around. It's the black chakra thing that was in his hand. Shit doesn't just disappear. That's why he was able to mold his staff into a ball when the ERS hit him and block it.
