I've noticed quite a few people have recently Picked up One Piece to add to their manga/anime read/watch list. With so many wanting to get into it, I figured I would try to convince others to get into it as well. With Golden Week arriving shortly and the manga being on break, I figure this would be a good time to start.

The biggest complaints I see from people not wanting to start One Piece is that it will take too long to get into, and the beginning sucks. Well I wanted to make a guide to help people get passed the boring parts and onto when things get good. I'm also going to cut the watch time down tremendously.

This guide is broken into three different parts.

First part:
I have found 5 videos on Youtube that summarize the first 18 episodes into 34 minutes, 48 seconds. If you figure 20 minutes per episode, I have cut your watch time down by a tenth. We are going to call this part the "None Piece" part.

The links for easy access:
Episode 1

Episode 2

Episode 3

Episode 4

Episode 5

Second part:
This part cannot shorten. It is the Baratie Arc. It is 11 episodes. Just watch it on *insert favorite place to watch anime here*

Third part:
There was a special episode done recently that's called "Episode of Nami: Tears of a Navigator and Bonds of Friends." This is a 1 hour 45 minute special summarizing the Arlong Arc. This is in subbed so you will have to read. Basically it is 14 episodes put into a 2 hour film. That is over 2 and a half times less watching then the original. It is also done with up to date animation so people can get a taste of how good animation becomes later. Considering this was animated in late 1999 early 2000, 13 years in animation is a big difference. Speaking of differences, there are a few anime/manga differences with this special. They had to cut out a bit. If you want to know what, check the wiki here (or just watch the original later).

So with this guide you will only have to watch 5 hours 59 minutes 48 seconds versus 15 hours. That's watching 45 episodes 2.5 times faster than normal. Good deal right?

Continue watching from episode 44-47 with the buggy side story arc and then episodes 48-53 with the Logue Town Arc. After that is the only filler arc I recommend to skip (episodes 54-61). After that, if you are still bored after the next saga, I just say stop watching. Just note One Piece only gets better.

For big One Piece fans, do not take this too serious. The Original is always the best. For people who have never watched One Piece, maybe take this seriously.

At best, I will have converted some people to Goda. At worst I will get people with no life commenting saying "Didnt read" or "go somewhere else OP ***" and try to ruin my thread. A middle ground, I will have introduced people to the genius that is known as None Piece.

Lastly, Sub is many times better then the dub imo. The Funimation dub isn't bad though. Most of the people who voiced DBZ characters do the voices for the OP cast. To me it seems weird hearing Piccolo being Zoro, or Trunks being Sanji. Others may like it. Do what you are most comfortable with. Eventually you will have to go sub since only half of it is in subs right now. Any questions, just leave a comment or VM me.

Enel is the God guy with the superiority complex. Arlong is the Fishman(sharkman). Well, you only have watched a little bit. One Piece gets leagues better after Enel. The story becomes really complex with twists and turns everywhere. Most people don't ever get this far though to realize why One Piece is the highest selling manga of all time. Pick it up if you have the time.

I watched up to Thriller Bark.
Maybe it was of my own accord that I dropped out of it (since I was watching a lot),
but Thriller Bark seemed too long and got stale after like 6 episodes. Might get back into it again though.

I do all of them XD. I watched the subed about 2 times, and read the manga like 5 times. I also watch the English dub to see how well they did to the original. The recent episodes the dubbed were really good. If you like reading it, then read it. There are ALOT of things they edited out in the anime because you don't want to have kids see some of that stuff. You can't go wrong with either. It really comes down to how much time you have. I mean it's not a race to catch up or anything. Anime/manga is done for leisure and relaxing.

Oh, it will be. And after Thriller Bark is SO epic. You have no idea :snick:

OP: I personally thought that starting from the very beginning was totally worth it, but you have a great idea here. =D I think I'll recommend this to my friends.

To both of you. Thriller Bark is basically done to introduce a new character and to show where the crew really stands in the grand scale of the true monsters in One Piece. The next arc will make this even more clear. the ending has one of the most bad ass scenes in all of One Piece. It is a top 3 most remembered moment for sure.

Many think it is boring because of the high you just got done with the previous arc. Looking at it as a single arc, it was done brilliantly. It is a hard adjustment from the previous island, but things get better from there.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Water 7 was freaking brilliant.
Thriller Bark, while I understand what it's meant to do, I just don't like too much.
I haven't even gotten to the final fight yet and new villains that to be honest don't seem too strong were introduced.
But I can see myself watching till Shippuden gets out of damn filler. Might be able to catch up in that time.

what got me into it was watching a Whitebeard amv. Most epic thing ever and I ended up reading it. The beginning did drag on a little too long. Once I got to gekko moriah shit got real

there was actually a much faster way, and it summarizes the entire story up to the time skip, in around 30 minutes. I forgot what the video is called though

You are talking about the "One Piece in 6 minutes" video. There is also a One Piece in 10 minutes now also. It's an amazing amv, but I did this so people can get over the boring hump of introducing the characters. Although I think their back stories are really good, None Piece just makes it even more epic, and the special episode with Nami is really good as well.

I wonder why no one is commenting on the None Piece videos too.

I couldn't watch it. The animation gets to me every time lol so i just read it and caught up. Although i was only really interested in the CP5 arc (or whatever that arc was called) all the other arcs so far have been "meh" to me. I actually almost quit reading it during the gas guy's arc because it just got EXTREMELY boring. Only reason why i started reading it in the first place was because my friend is a fan and kept saying "its really good!" Since he watched Naruto after i recommended it to him, i decided to at least try it. Since then i haven't dropped it mostly due to the fact that i like seeing things through until the end once i start. (unless they get really unbearable) Thanks for the anime summary though, Should help those who want to see what all the hype is about.

What the fk is this sh.it? If you want to get into One Piece start from episode 1 and keep watching, AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

There are no shortcuts, every arc is important, take your fkn time its NOT A RACE
